Momentum vs. Toggl Track

Toggl Track is built on a humane idea — people log the time they choose to log. That works for freelancers and honest retrospection; it struggles as an organisational source of truth, because timers get forgotten and categories drift. Momentum's desktop agents record what actually happened: active windows, idle gaps, input counts. The Timeline is a measurement, not a recollection, and the analytics inherit that reliability.

Toggl captures what users start and stop. Momentum's agents capture every application — including offline desktop tools like IDEs and design suites — and classify the time through Global App Rules with per-department overrides. That's the layer manual timers can't reach: nobody starts a timer for a distraction, and self-reported entries carry no idle detection, no input signal, and no attendance picture.

Toggl's admin surface reflects its self-tracking roots. Momentum assumes an IT department exists: machines move through Pending, Approved, and Rejected states with remote uninstall; Settings define workday hours, expected desk hours, and thresholds org-wide; and agent Logs plus Resource Usage give operations a fleet-level view no timer app is designed to provide — alongside endpoint security posture checks and AI adoption analytics a manual timer has no concept of.
