Remote work removed the hallway and the desk you could glance at. Momentum gives that visibility back without the creepiness — aggregate-first dashboards, self-visible scores, and attendance that works across every time zone.

// The challenge

What gets in the way

01
No shared picture

Managers rely on standups and gut feel instead of evidence of how work actually flows.

02
Time-zone chaos

Working hours, overlap, and coverage are impossible to reason about manually across regions.

03
Trust both ways

People want to be measured fairly; leaders want honesty. Both need the same source of truth.

How this plays out for remote teams

When the office disappeared, so did the picture

A remote manager can't glance across a room. They see Slack messages and standup summaries — proxies, not evidence. Meanwhile every region runs on a different clock, so nobody can say who was actually at their desk during the hours the org expected, whether people are logging honest active time or drifting idle, or whether the tools eating the day are the ones that move work forward. The default answers are more meetings and more check-ins, which cost the very focus they're meant to find.

One agent, one timeline, one shared truth

Momentum's desktop agents for Windows, macOS, and Linux capture activity quietly and roll it into a Timeline every manager and employee can read: a green-active / red-idle day strip, a Time Summary split into Productive, Non-Productive, and Unmarked hours, and App Usage down to offline apps. General settings encode your workday hours, expected desk hours, and target productive hours per tenant — so "present" means the same thing in Lisbon, Lagos, and Laguna. The Activity view shows each person's start, finish, and productivity score against expectation.

Thirty days in: fewer meetings, fairer conversations

After a month of baseline data, the Workforce Dashboard replaces the Monday status ritual. Leaders open one screen and see present vs absent, average active desk time, avg productive time, and the expected-vs-actual trend for every department. One-on-ones start from a shared Timeline instead of recollection, and because every employee sees their own activity, the numbers are never a surprise. Status meetings shrink because the status is already visible.

// Metrics to watch

The numbers that tell you it's working

Every one of these lives on the Momentum Workforce Dashboard — no exports, no spreadsheets. Set your workday, expected desk hours, and target productive hours in General settings, and watch the expected-vs-actual gap close week over week.

// The playbook

From install to insight in four moves

A proven rollout sequence using real Momentum modules — agents, machine approval, department app rules, and the dashboard.

01
Deploy agents by region

Ship the Windows, macOS, and Linux agents to every remote machine. New devices land in the Machines queue as Pending — approve them one by one or switch on auto-approval for trusted rollout waves.

02
Set the workday per tenant

In General settings, define workday hours, expected desk hours, and target productive hours that respect time zones — so a Berlin morning and a Bogotá afternoon are both measured against the right expectation.

03
Classify apps by department

Mark apps Productive, Non-Productive, or Unmarked in Global App Rules, then let Departments override them — Figma is productive for Design, YouTube is productive for the video team, and nowhere else.

04
Run the week from the dashboard

Watch the Workforce Dashboard's expected-vs-actual trend, top performers, and department time distribution. Replace the status meeting with a five-minute scan and a Timeline drill-down when something looks off.

// Questions

Remote teams teams usually ask

Can remote employees see their own data?+

Yes. Every employee has full access to their own Timeline, Activity view, and productivity score. Self-visibility is what keeps a distributed rollout fair and accepted.

How does Momentum handle time zones across regions?+

General settings define office start/end, workday hours, and expected desk hours per tenant, so attendance and expected-vs-actual comparisons are always measured against the right local workday.

What if a remote laptop is offline for a stretch?+

The agent keeps capturing locally — including offline app usage — and syncs when the machine reconnects, so Timelines and Time Summaries stay complete.

How do we stop unmanaged personal devices reporting in?+

The Machines module holds every new install in a Pending state until an Admin approves it. You can also reject devices, disable agent login, or remotely uninstall an agent from a machine that should no longer report.
