Three labels, complete control
Every application resolves to one of three classifications — Productive, Non-Productive, or Unmarked — under rules you write yourself in Global App Rules. Nothing is judged by a vendor's opinion of what work looks like. The Unmarked bucket also acts as a live to-do list: newly seen apps land there until someone decides how they should count, so classifications stay deliberate.
Department overrides, because context is everything
A social media dashboard is a distraction for a developer and the whole job for a marketer. Department-level app rules override the global defaults, so the same application scores differently team by team. Set the global baseline once, then let each department's rules capture the reality of how that team actually works — no compromise classification required.
The full picture, including offline apps
App Usage in the Timeline shows exactly where each hour went — and it includes offline applications, not just the browser. Desktop IDEs, design tools, spreadsheets, and terminal sessions all appear with their captured time, so knowledge work that never touches a URL is measured just as faithfully as web work. The Time Summary pie rolls it all up into Productive, Non-Productive, and Unmarked at a glance.

What are the classification categories?+
Three: Productive, Non-Productive, and Unmarked. Apps stay Unmarked until an admin classifies them, and Unmarked time is reported separately so it never distorts scores.
Can the same app count differently for different teams?+
Yes. Department-level app rules override Global App Rules, so a communications tool can be Productive for support and Non-Productive for engineering.
Does Momentum track offline applications?+
Yes. App Usage includes offline apps — IDEs, design tools, spreadsheets — with their captured time, alongside everything else on the machine.
Who manages app rules?+
Admins manage Global App Rules and department overrides in Settings for their tenant. Managers can view team analytics but cannot change classification rules.
