Email is the archetypal Unmarked-by-default app: universal, necessary, and impossible to score one way for everyone. A sensible setup is Unmarked in Global App Rules, with Productive overrides for departments whose work is the inbox — sales, recruiting, support escalations. Non-Productive email rules almost always misfire.

Does Momentum read email content or subject lines?+
No. The agent captures the active application and window time plus aggregate input counts. Message bodies, recipients, and subjects are never collected.
Can work and personal email be classified differently?+
Yes, when they run as distinguishable apps or windows — a corporate Outlook profile can be Productive while a personal webmail app is Non-Productive, under the same Global App Rules and overrides as everything else.
How should email time affect productivity scores?+
That's a policy choice Momentum makes explicit: Unmarked keeps email neutral in scores while still visible in Timeline and time distribution; a department override flips it to fully scored where inbox work is the job.
