How Momentum reads project & issue tracking time

Jira time is captured by the desktop agent like any other app — here's how it flows into classification, scores, and dashboards.

01
Planning time made visible

Time spent in Jira — grooming, triage, ticket updates — registers on the Timeline as active window time like any other app, so it stops being invisible work squeezed between 'real' engineering. The Workforce Dashboard rolls Jira time into department time distribution alongside IDEs and terminals.

02
Focus time against delivery, not against tickets

Momentum doesn't auto-attribute focus minutes to individual issues — it keeps deep-work measurement simple and honest, then lets you read Jira activity next to the expected-vs-actual trend to see whether planning is crowding out execution.

// Classification guidance

Where Jira should land in your app rules

Jira is Productive for almost every engineering and product department by default — planning is real work. Watch department time distribution rather than reclassifying Jira if its share balloons; a rising Jira share alongside falling IDE time is a signal about process, not a reason to mark the tracker Non-Productive.

// FAQ

Jira + Momentum, answered

Does Momentum sync focus time back into Jira issues?+

No. Momentum doesn't auto-log time against tickets — it keeps activity measurement and issue tracking separate, and gives you the department-level view instead of a per-ticket timesheet.

Is time in the Jira desktop app and the browser tab treated the same?+

Yes. The agent classifies whichever is the active window the same way, so it doesn't matter whether your team uses the native client or a browser tab.

Can a department mark Jira differently from the rest of the org?+

Yes. Global App Rules set the default — usually Productive — and department overrides win where a team's relationship to the tracker is genuinely different.
